We have started a new unit in Science on Matter.  The kids are really enjoying the activities so far. Next week we will work on finding a mortar that will work best to build “The Three Little Pigs” houses!

I have been out sick with the nasty flu that has gone through Walterville…what a year this has been for me. I apologize for being out so much. But while I was gone, kids got to have the wonderful Mrs. Weber (retired Walterville teacher) and she did some great stuff with them. One of the activities was to build a structure that would hold a book using toothpicks and gumdrops. I will put some of the pictures of the top teams on my blog. Please check out the blog site and sign up for updates on the right side of the weekly news page. Then you will always know when there is something new there! I try to post pictures of activities when possible. http://mspattersonsclassroom.weebly.com/weekly-news

I will send a Valentine list home on Monday for kids who want to get started on Valentines. We will have our party on Friday Feb. 13th at 2pm.

I will also be sending a February calendar and a book order on Monday.

Sorry for the delay in homework posting! I was out on Friday thinking I was catching the crud that has been going around...but luckily it looks like it is just a cold. The kids have been really good about hand washing and sanitizing. Please be sure to keep your child home unless they have been fever free for 24 hours!

Check the calendar for your child’s sharing day and other important events!

PE days are back to Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please be sure your child has appropriate shoes.

It is that time of the year when I need to ask for a replenishment of supplies.  We use our dry erase markers every day in a variety of ways and they are almost gone.  If you can send another 4 pack of skinny markers in whenever it is convenient, that would be most appreciated! Thank you.

Please look at the information included about your child’s CBM test scores. Sign and return the paper to me next week and feel free to contact me if you have questions.

Please return your SpringNet form if you have not already! We have a few students who will not be able to access the computers to take Reading Counts tests or do math games or code building until this is returned.  Thank you!

We had a great turnout for Family Reading Night!  Thank you to the PTO for providing the cool book bags and helping to support this fun event!

I did write about SpringNet forms coming home on Monday...They came home today but it looks like they went to students who already had a form signed and returned. I am sorry for any confusion about this. I will be sending the forms home on Monday with student who DO NOT have a form on file. Please return it ASAP!  Thank you!

Check the calendar for your child’s sharing day and other important events!

The book swap and family literacy night is on Thursday. Kids can bring books for the book swap until Thursday morning. This will be a great night to celebrate some winter stories and share a meal. Dinner starts at 5:30. We hope to see you there!

We are starting a new writing unit on “How-to” books.  Your children have really developed some great writing skills and I am excited to see what they have already done in just a few short lessons. We will continue to learn about how to write about things we are “experts” about (cooking, sports, etc…) and then work on a final project in the coming weeks.

Be on the look out for “SpringNet” from coming home on Monday. This form allows your child to get on the internet at school. If we did not get a signed from at the beginning of the year, your child will bring a new one home. Without this permission, students can not take Reading Counts tests, do Hour of Code or any other very COOL things that children get the opportunity to do in the library or classroom! I only have 10 students with a record on file.

Great job sending in those Box Tops!  We are working hard to build our snowman for the contest! Keep them comingJ.

I hope you had a wonderful and peaceful holiday!  It seems like forever since I have seen your children and I am looking forward to getting back into the swing of things in the new year:)

Please be sure to look at the calendar for the events that are coming up in the next month.  Family Literacy Night is next week and will be great fun for all. Please send in children’s books that are in good condition. Each child will receive a coupon for each book brought (up to 5) so that they can get books from the swap. This is always a great way for kids to get new books for home and you to clean out booksJ

Reminder that there is Early Release on Friday.

Please return December reading logs this week.

Homework is due on Friday.
