Please remember that homework is due on Wednesday this week! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!
We have had a great time learning about forest science this week with our Talk About Trees presentations. Our presenter taught us about the two families of trees: conifers and broadleaf. We learned about what trees gives us and heard a legend about the Douglas Fir cones. On the second day we got to make paper out of toilet paper.
Our salmon have hatched! They are now in the alevin stage. Ask your child what they know about the salmon’s life cycle at this point. We have learned about how important it is to take care of our rivers, what an estuary is and how salmon use imprinting to make their way back to their home after they migrate to the ocean. We will be releasing them before Christmas into a canal near Alton Baker Park. I would love to have a couple parents join us on that field trip so let me know if you might be available. I am not sure of the day yet.
Just a reminder of a couple other things….
PE is on Tuesday and Thursday. I know that with the cold and wet weather, many students are wearing boots to school. Please be sure to send a pair of tennis shoes with your child so they can get the most out of PE and our fitness training.
School starts at 8:30. My doors open at 8:15 and students have an entry task each morning. Breakfast starts at 8:15 as well. If students are eating breakfast they still have time to complete the entry task. Students who arrive in the classroom after 8:30 are marked tardy and it is challenging to try to complete morning tasks by 8:45 when our Wildcat Academy starts.
Please look for your child’s blue clip chart card each Monday. Sign and return it on Tuesday so they don’t need to stay at recess and write a reminder. Last week we earned 83 points toward our class goal of 300 to earn a “Board Game Day”!
