Sorry for any confusion on homework. It looks like I started a post on the 31st and didn't add the note about homework being due this Monday. It was and is due this week. I gave kids lots of extra time to complete it so all folders should have been done and turned in by today to be considered on time. New homework will come home on Friday this week. Thanks to all who came to conferences last week. It was great to see you and share all the ways your children are growing this year! Remember to send PE shoes tomorrow and Friday. Our trainer will be here:)
Oops! I didn't realize that the letters about the bond measure were addressed to individual students...they are all generic letters, so if you got someone else's letter, it's ok to open it. Sorry for any confusion!
Your children are amazing writers! I am so excited to see their excitement every day for writing. They have made an incredible amount of growth in a short time. We have been working on personal narratives in a variety of ways…weekend news, events in our life, field trip experiences, etc. They also write letters each Friday to the person of the week. This week we wrote color poems as part of our poetry unit in reading. They are really so amazing…check them out hanging in the gym if you can! They will be displayed for a few weeks and then sent home.
Please be sure your child has PE shoes on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday now. We have PE trainers here two days a week and we want kids to be able to participate safely in these great fitness activities. If it is easier to leave PE shoes in backpacks, I would suggest doing that! We have parent conferences in two weeks. I have done my best to schedule you during your first priority times. If you have not returned your forms, please do so ASAP so that I can get you scheduled. This is a large class and my schedule is very tight. If you would prefer a phone conference, I can also do that. I will send your confirmation notes home as soon as I have you scheduled. I am so sorry that I did not get this posted on Friday! There will only need to be three nights of reading signed for this week...and not too many words since it is review. The homework is up now for those on electronic news. Thanks for your patience.
We are starting our salmon unit soon. We will be learning about the life cycle of salmon and raising salmon from the egg stage. They will be delivered in about a week as part of an EWEB grant. We will be releasing the baby salmon in December into the Willamette River at Alton Baker Park. This ties in with our social science goal of communities, as this is a big part of our community. We discussed different kinds of communities today using the Weekly Reader. The students are excited about this unit! We will be changing our PE days to Tuesday, Thursday and Friday during the time that the PE trainers are working with us for the PE grant. Please be sure your child has appropriate clothing for those days. I am sorry for the change in schedule…It was out of my control! We will need to wear PE shoes THIS coming Monday as well because they will be doing the PE assessment that day instead of today (Friday). Thanks for your understanding! I would love to have a volunteer on Monday or Tuesday for “busy” work…correcting papers, filing, etc. If that could be you…would you please let me know ASAP? Thanks so much for all of your help and support in this VERY large classroom. Don't forget about the Walterville Jog-a-thon this Friday! Get those pledges collected and bring packets back this week. I will sponsor anyone that asks me (from our class) 2¢ per lap. I know it isn't much, but it all adds up! Be sure to wear good running clothes on Friday. Our fitness trainers will also be here doing a baseline assessment for our fitness goal. This will be another reason to wear good clothing for a workout!
I am still trying to figure out this whole blog thing...realized half of my message cut off in the last post...so here is the whole message! Thanks for your patience.
Scarecrows here, scarecrows there...scarecrows seem to be everywhere! We created these great scarecrows using oil pastel and watercolor after reading a book called The Little Scarecrow Boy by Margaret Wise Brown. There are some hanging in our room and some in the office. They are so much fun to look at! And along that note...please send in items for classrooms to create a scarecrow to be auctioned off at the Fall Festival. We need old shirts, hats, pants, etc...
