I did write about SpringNet forms coming home on Monday...They came home today but it looks like they went to students who already had a form signed and returned. I am sorry for any confusion about this. I will be sending the forms home on Monday with student who DO NOT have a form on file. Please return it ASAP! Thank you!

Check the calendar for your child’s sharing day and other important events!
The book swap and family literacy night is on Thursday. Kids can bring books for the book swap until Thursday morning. This will be a great night to celebrate some winter stories and share a meal. Dinner starts at 5:30. We hope to see you there! We are starting a new writing unit on “How-to” books. Your children have really developed some great writing skills and I am excited to see what they have already done in just a few short lessons. We will continue to learn about how to write about things we are “experts” about (cooking, sports, etc…) and then work on a final project in the coming weeks. Be on the look out for “SpringNet” from coming home on Monday. This form allows your child to get on the internet at school. If we did not get a signed from at the beginning of the year, your child will bring a new one home. Without this permission, students can not take Reading Counts tests, do Hour of Code or any other very COOL things that children get the opportunity to do in the library or classroom! I only have 10 students with a record on file. Great job sending in those Box Tops! We are working hard to build our snowman for the contest! Keep them comingJ. I hope you had a wonderful and peaceful holiday! It seems like forever since I have seen your children and I am looking forward to getting back into the swing of things in the new year:)
Please be sure to look at the calendar for the events that are coming up in the next month. Family Literacy Night is next week and will be great fun for all. Please send in children’s books that are in good condition. Each child will receive a coupon for each book brought (up to 5) so that they can get books from the swap. This is always a great way for kids to get new books for home and you to clean out booksJ Reminder that there is Early Release on Friday. Please return December reading logs this week. Homework is due on Friday. We had a great time releasing salmon into the canal at Alton Baker Park today! Hooray for no rain on us and great parent helpers. We also enjoyed checking our the Springfield Public Library. Your child came home with some information about the library and things to do over the winter vacation.
Sorry I put the wrong date on the lunch request form! Field Trip 12/10 to Alton Baker Park and Springfield Public Library Please be sure your child has a lunch or you have let the school know that you need a lunch provided. We will leave the school at 10:40 and return around 1:45. Please have your child wear warm clothes and tennis shoes or rubber boots. Thank you! Heidi Patterson I am sending a book order home this week. Books are great Christmas gifts! If you want to order for Christmas, send a note in and I will make arrangements to get books to you rather than sending them home with your child. I will be ordering Tuesday to be sure that the orders get back in time before the holidays. We will be going on a field trip to release our salmon on Wednesday, December 10th. I would like to have 4-5 parents to go with me. We will be leave school around 10:40 to go to Alton Baker Park. If the weather is not to cold, we will eat there. From there we will be going for a visit to the Springfield Public Library and we will eat there if necessary. We will plan to return to school at 1:15. Please let me know ASAP if you would like to go. You can email me at [email protected] or call the school at 541-744-6415. I do need one parent who is willing to drive to Briggs Middle School and pick up some salmon from there and meet us at Alton Baker so that everyone has one to release. I also need to know if your child needs the school to prepare a lunch for his/her. Please return the attached note on Monday indicating whether you will provide a lunch or need a lunch provided. We have started a holidays around the world unit for writing and social studies. I try to incorporate some crafts from different countries during our holiday party. If you have any simple ideas, please feel free to share! And…I need lots of parent helpers. Please let me know if you can help on Friday, December 18th from 12:45-2:40! WE WON!!!!! Thanks for sending in all of your box tops! Room 6 won the contest and received free popcorn Friday. Students will get an extra recess on Monday...and we get two new board games for our "Board Game Day" that will be coming up. We will get to use them during Free Choice Fridays as well.
Please remember that homework is due on Wednesday this week! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! We have had a great time learning about forest science this week with our Talk About Trees presentations. Our presenter taught us about the two families of trees: conifers and broadleaf. We learned about what trees gives us and heard a legend about the Douglas Fir cones. On the second day we got to make paper out of toilet paper. Our salmon have hatched! They are now in the alevin stage. Ask your child what they know about the salmon’s life cycle at this point. We have learned about how important it is to take care of our rivers, what an estuary is and how salmon use imprinting to make their way back to their home after they migrate to the ocean. We will be releasing them before Christmas into a canal near Alton Baker Park. I would love to have a couple parents join us on that field trip so let me know if you might be available. I am not sure of the day yet. Just a reminder of a couple other things…. PE is on Tuesday and Thursday. I know that with the cold and wet weather, many students are wearing boots to school. Please be sure to send a pair of tennis shoes with your child so they can get the most out of PE and our fitness training. School starts at 8:30. My doors open at 8:15 and students have an entry task each morning. Breakfast starts at 8:15 as well. If students are eating breakfast they still have time to complete the entry task. Students who arrive in the classroom after 8:30 are marked tardy and it is challenging to try to complete morning tasks by 8:45 when our Wildcat Academy starts. Please look for your child’s blue clip chart card each Monday. Sign and return it on Tuesday so they don’t need to stay at recess and write a reminder. Last week we earned 83 points toward our class goal of 300 to earn a “Board Game Day”! We are making paper on Thursday and need some extra help! If you can help out from 12:45-1:30, please let me know ASAP.
